Judit Monis Vineyard Health Consulting provides specialized services to help growers, vineyard managers, and nursery personnel avoid the propagation and transmission of disease caused by bacteria, fungi, and viruses in their vineyard blocks.
Our philosophy is that graft transmissible diseases have no cure once established in the vineyard. Therefore, the only way to avoid disease in the vineyard is to prevent the introduction of disease causing agents in the first place. We know that existing vineyards may already be infected with pathogens that will cause detrimental effects in your vineyard.
Whether you are establishing new vineyard blocks or have a problem vineyard, we can help with expert knowledge on disease management and control.
We are fluent in Spanish and our services are available in other important wine grape growing regions of the world.
About Judit Monis: A native of Argentina, Judit began her grapevine disease work in Oregon where she developed a state-of-the-art commercial grapevine disease testing lab for Agritope. She left this for a position in Spain as the European director of Plant Pathology R&D for the world's largest vegetable seed company (Seminis, now part of Bayer) where she oversaw five R&D stations and was responsible for disease testing in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Later she worked for USDA before coming to California to develop and manage a grapevine disease testing program for STA Laboratories. Her laboratory's commercial success led to the sale of STA Labs to French-based Eurofins, founded on vineyard terroir testing ("FINS" refers to the NMR testing technique). Judit left to develop her consulting business a few years later.
Judit is the author of numerous articles and is active in several professional societies such as ICVG (International Grapevine Viruses), ICGTD (Grapevine Trunk Diseases), APS (Plant Pathology). She has been a member of the AVF "pest and diseases" review committee since 2007.
Judit holds a doctorate degree in Plant Pathology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received post-doctoral training at the University of California at Berkeley.
